Hudson {Cairns Lifestyle Newborn Photography}

Lifestyle newborn photography sessions are for the brave, I reckon so. It’s one thing to take your newborn baby to a newborn photographer who then wraps your baby in perfect swaddles and makes them look like the sleeping angel that they are (or aren’t!). But it’s a whole other game when you choose to document your baby’s life as it happens. There are still lots of cute moments at a lifestyle newborn session, but the not so perfect moments are recorded too. More importantly the real life moments are recorded. As a mum I deeply treasure the few photographs of me breastfeeding my babies, the unsuspecting sneaky shots of me napping with them on my chest, the unglamorous photos of me changing them out of their dirty nappies…. As a photographer I want to capture the same moments that I know parents will come to treasure as their babies grow older and bigger. My goal is to make the moments look as photogenic as possible, while keeping them honest and real.

7 months ago I got to photograph Sam and Justin get married, so it was a privilege to be asked to document the next chapter in their journey. Having already worked together, we knew what to expect and how the session would work out. It was a bonus that baby Hudson was the most chilled out bubba ever, making my job pretty easy. There was so much love and joy captured in these images that when I look at them it takes me back to my own newborn days…

It is my sincere hope that more parents will start to embrace this kind of newborn photography. It’s the everyday moments that we often take for granted, and forget to preserve, but they’re the ones that truly count in the end.
