Annika & Ryan {Port Douglas Wedding Photography}
One fine day in November I got to witness two incredible people get married. Kind, genuine people with funky souls. My kind of people!
Their Newell beach wedding was impeccably styled. Every detail spoke about the people they were: Ryan and his casual linen suit and vegan shoes, Annika with her simple and sophisticated gown. The paper airplanes that symbolised the travelling they did together, the seashells and starfish and driftwood from the sea where they spend much of their free time surfing, the pearl jewellery he picked out for her, the one-week-for-a-year postcards their family and friends were asked to write and send to them to remind them of Far North Queensland.
Signs of a perfect match between photographer & couple:
– Instead of a short coffee meeting, ours was two hours long over light beer (I’m a lightweight).
– Annika saying things like, “We hate posing,” “we don’t like typical, cheesey wedding photos.” You got it, I said.
– Being so excited to get to my favourite venue (Renewell) that I forgot to fill up, and the car ran on empty all the way to Port Douglas with me behind the wheel praying that it wouldn’t die at a winding turn.
– Ben Howard, my current favourite musician, was playing on repeat, all morning and afternoon
– They hired Chriso to cater their reception without a taste test, because I said he was the best and they took my word for it. (And it was one heavenly dish after another we got treated to that night.)
– Location photos were entirely unscripted. It’s rare that I get to be a true photojournalist at a wedding, but on this day I got to live my dream.
Thank you, Ryan and Annika. Love you guys! xxx
P.S. If you look closely at the photos of Annika talking under the paper lanterns during the reception, you’ll notice mysterious green orbs dancing around her. They were not light leaks from my camera or reflections from the lanterns nearby. In fact, I don’t think they were physical lights because I didn’t see them when I took these photographs. I do know that sometimes people with high vibrations put out an energy that can manifest into light unseen by only some. I’ve experienced it only once before. Amazing, huh!
