Erin Duncan {Hobart artist & illustrator}
Every artist has a muse, and it’s easy to see how Erin’s been my muse since our very first collab in 2019. We met at a kid’s birthday party 3 years prior, and made plans to get to know each other, but didn’t reconnect until one fateful morning, en route to an island for a wedding of a mutual friend’s, me as the photographer, Erin masquerading as a cake deliverer for free boat entry (who’d gone and accidentally picked up a kid’s ocean-themed birthday cake)… and the rest, as they say, was history. We’d become fast friends, soul sisters, annual spring camp organisers, and visual content collaborators.
Fast forward 5 years, Erin and her family had moved to Tasmania to embrace the beauty that inspires much of Erin’s current work and a new adventure.
The day I flew down to see Erin, she’d been hired to illustrate her first book with a renowned publishing company. It was, needless to say, an absolute honour to be asked to photograph the artist at her home, secretly hoping that one day one of these photographs might make it into the sleeve of a book.
Erin’s daughters are just as whimsical and creative as their mum, so I love it when they get in front of the camera and play with us. The younger girl decided to join in one evening to show me around the orchard to teach me the names of all their chickens.
I say this every time we run amuck and create images together, but this one, might just be my favourite shoot to date.
I love Tassie and I cannot wait to be there next week!
P.S. Check out Erin’s artwork and follow along!
